Last week MacCentral brought readers news about Bugdom 2's release. It's the newest Mac-exclusive 3D action game from Pangea Software, makers of Otto Matic, Cro-Mag Rally and other games. Bugdom 2 is the sequel to 1999's Bugdom, Pangea's best-selling game to date. It brings players back to Bugdom, the miniature world inhabited by fanciful bugs and creatures of all descriptions. You take control of Skip, a young grasshopper on a trip to see his family who is assaulted by the Bully Bee, who takes his knapsack and flies away. Skip goes on a quest to recover the stolen goods as he travels across a suburban backyard and through a house.
Bugdom 2 offers more varied gameplay than the original, with surfing trips down drainspouts and aerial assaults on anthills from the cockpit of a balsa wood flier. The game features OpenGL-rendered 3D graphics with optional support for technologies like ATI's TruForm, a polygonal rendering technology that creates smoother looking 3D graphics on supported graphics cards. It runs natively on Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, and works on Macs back to the 400MHz iMac DV.
A demo of the game is available to give you a taste of what playing Bugdom 2 is like, and it clocks in at about 35MB. The full version of Bugdom 2 is also available for download -- it measures almost 132MB. It requires a registration code in order to function, which can be purchased directly from Pangea Software's Web site.
Mac.com account holders can access the demo and the full version downloads from their iDisk. To access them, mount your iDisk, double-click on the Software folder, double-click on Mac OS X Software and look inside the What's New folder.
